Bharateeyudu 2 (2024) : “A Legendary Return with Lagging Moments”
Director: Shankar
Starring: Kamal Hassan, Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, Samuthirakani
Music: Anirudh Ravichander
Producers: Subaskaran Allirajah, K. Karunamoorthy
Cinematographer: Ravi Varman
Genre: Action, Drama
Language: Tamil
Runtime: 3 hours
Plot:
The plot of Bharateeyudu 2 revolves around the return of the vigilante Senapathy, played by Kamal Hassan. As he tries to clean up corruption, he faces new challenges and adversaries in a modern setting. The story attempts to blend the legacy of the original Bharateeyudu with contemporary issues.
Performances:
Kamal Hassan: Delivers an okay performance as Senapathy but fails to match his iconic portrayal in the original Bharateeyudu.
Siddharth: Stands out in emotional scenes, providing a solid performance.
Rakul Preet Singh: Small role but dailogues by her was eyeopening and hardhitting.
Samuthirakani: Consistently good, adding value to the film.
Supporting Cast: The friends of Siddharth’s character perform well, adding depth to the narrative.
Technical Aspects:
Director:
Shankar returns with a vision to infuse the spirit of Bharateeyudu in today’s youth. However, despite the grand narrative, the film suffers from excessive lag and irrelevant scenes that diminish its impact.
Cinematography:
Handled by Ravi Varman, the cinematography is satisfactory but not particularly impressive.
Music:
Anirudh Ravichander’s score is underwhelming, especially when compared to A.R. Rahman’s unforgettable music from the original Bharateeyudu.
Production Values:
The production values are decent but nothing extraordinary.
Strengths:
• Kamal Hassan’s presence
• Strong supporting cast
• A.R. Rahman’s music from the original Bharateeyudu
Weaknesses:
• Excessive lagging scenes
• Unnecessary fight sequences
• Unattractive Senapathy scenes
My Personal Take on the Cinema:
‘Bharateeyudu 2’ offers little. The director tried to bring a compelling concept but left too many lagging scenes, seemingly saving the best for Bharateeyudu 3. This could have been better if it was a standalone movie. Kamal Hassan couldn’t carry his legendary character; the Senapathy aura is missing. A.R. Rahman’s music outshines Anirudh’s. Overall, Bharateeyudu 2 is an avoidable film.
