Azaad (2025) – A ok-ish debut vehicle for both Aaman Devgan, Rasha Thadani. But the film fails to leave a lasting impact.

Directed by: Abhishek Kapoor
Written by: Abhishek Kapoor, Suresh Nair, Ritesh Shah
Starring: Ajay Devgn, Diana Penty, Aaman Devgan, Rasha Thadani
Genre: Action, Adventure, Drama, Romance
Language: Hindi

Synopsis:

Set against the backdrop of British rule in India, Azaad follows the journey of Govind, a village boy with a deep love for horses. His fascination leads him to Azaad, a majestic stallion owned by the rebel leader Vikram Singh (Ajay Devgn). After Vikram’s death, Govind’s fate becomes intertwined with the legendary horse, pushing him into a battle to free his people from oppression. Along the way, he falls in love with Janaki (Rasha Thadani), the daughter of a ruthless landlord.

Performances:

  • Aaman Devgan (Govind)
✅ A solid debut! Aaman delivers a strong performance, especially in emotional and action sequences. Unlike his uncle Ajay Devgn, he dances surprisingly well, which adds a fresh appeal.

  • Rasha Thadani (Janaki)
❌ A weak performance. Rasha struggles with her dialogue delivery and accent, making her character feel out of place in a historical setting. Her fake crying scenes don’t help either.

  • Ajay Devgn (Vikram Singh)
🔥 A brief but impactful presence. He plays his part well, but his limited screen time makes him more of a mentor figure than a lead.

  • Supporting Cast
🎭 Decent performances, but no standout moments.

Direction & Writing:

  • Abhishek Kapoor’s direction is decent, but nothing groundbreaking. The film is visually stunning, but the storytelling lacks depth.
  • The biggest issue? The pacing.
    • The movie drags in the middle, making some parts repetitive.
    • A tighter edit (cutting 30 minutes) would have made it more engaging.
  • The core story is unique, but it gets overshadowed by the focus on launching the new actors.

Technical Aspects:

  • Music & Background Score:
🎵 Good. The songs and BGM match the period setting, but nothing memorable and we all know about the hit song uyi amma.

  • Cinematography & Visuals:
🎥 Impressive! The visuals are rich and cinematic, making the era feel authentic.

  • Production Values:
High quality. With a big-budget production, everything looks grand and polished.

Strengths:

A visually appealing period drama.
Aaman Devgan’s promising debut.
Ajay Devgn’s brief but strong presence.

Weaknesses:

Drags in the middle – too long.
Rasha Thadani’s performance weakens emotional depth.
Repetitive storytelling makes it feel stretched.

My Take On Cinema:

Azaad is a visually stunning but flawed film. While it successfully introduces Aaman Devgan, it struggles with pacing and emotional depth. It’s watchable but not extraordinary.

Rating:

2.25/5
