MAD Square(2025) - "A fun ride with moments of laughter, but not as mad as the first part."

Directed by: Kalyan Shankar
Starring: Narne Nithin, Sangeeth Shobhan, Ram Nithin, Priyanka Jawalkar
Genres: Comedy, Drama
Categories: Telugu Featured, Telugu Movies 2025

Language: Telugu

Plot Summary

The movie begins with Laddu arriving at Tihar Central Jail, immediately creating fear and curiosity among the prisoners. When a group of inmates probes into his past, Laddu narrates how his three friends — Manoj, Ashok, and Damodhar — inadvertently turned his wedding into a disastrous affair. What follows is a chaotic series of events that lead to his ultimate downfall. Packed with fun, unexpected twists, and laugh-out-loud moments, the movie is a rollercoaster of emotions and hilarity.

Performances

  • Sangeeth Shobhan brings his signature charm and comic timing, shining in his role. He makes the most of the humorous sequences and delivers a standout performance.

  • Narne Nithin is convincing, though the buildup to his character lacks the necessary impact.

  • Ram Nithin is decent but does not stand out compared to the others.

  • Vishnu steals the show with his comedic presence.

  • Sunil is good, His tone modulation and timing evoke nostalgia, reminiscent of the classic Sunil era.

  • The female cast, including Priyanka Jawalkar, has limited screen time with no significant roles to shine.

Direction and Screenplay

  • Kalyan Shankar handles the comedy genre well, planning and executing a mostly successful laugh riot. However, the movie struggles to match the charm of its predecessor.

  • The screenplay is lively in parts, but some scenes feel laggy and unnecessary, slowing down the narrative.

  • The Sunil call sequence stands out as one of the best comic moments, reminding the audience of vintage Sunil with its hilarious delivery.

Music and Visuals

  • Bheems Ceciroleo composes the music, with songs like "Laddu Gaani Pelli" and "Swathireddy" making a mark. The tracks are enjoyable, adding energy to the scenes.

  • The background score is just passable; it fails to elevate key moments, leaving a sense of incompleteness. A Thaman-level score could have significantly amplified the impact.

  • Cinematography is visually pleasing, capturing the chaos and humor well. The production values are evident, giving the film a polished look.

Strengths

Sangeeth Shobhan and Vishnu: Their performances add a comedic punch.
Sunil’s Cameo: Brings back memories of his iconic roles.
Decent Comedy: Light-hearted and enjoyable, especially in the first half.

Weaknesses

Lacks the Charm of Part 1: Fails to recreate the same magic.
Laggy Narration: Several scenes feel stretched.
BGM Disappointment: The background score doesn’t leave a lasting impact.
Underutilized Characters: Especially the female cast with limited roles.

My Personal Take on Cinema

MAD Square is a light-hearted entertainer with moments that will make you laugh, particularly if you enjoy slapstick humor. Sangeeth Shobhan and Vishnu provide the main highlights, but the film fails to match the comic brilliance of its predecessor. It’s good for a one-time watch if you’re in the mood for a stress-free comedy.
